Since the focus on Big
Meadow Creek Alpacas is on fiber, once our yearling boys are old enough, we geld them. Geldings
make great pets--they tend to be easier to handle than herdsires--and
guardian animals.
Their fleece stays finer longer, so if you're looking for a fiber animal,
they are a good choice!
Geldings are also useful as companion animals when traveling with
females and they're great at keeping your pastures "mowed."
Alpacas also provide great fertilizer!
